The Ministry of Labor and Social Development was established under the Royal Decree issued in the last month of 1380H under the name of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Firstly: To formulate the general policy for social and labor affairs in the Kingdom within the values, principles and systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Thirdly: To participate in guiding the social development in the Kingdom in a balanced direction aimed to raise the awareness of the citizens, improving their standard of living and creating the elements of a decent life within their spiritual and moral values and supporting them to build an integrated society.
In the year 1425h, the Council of Ministers issued a decree No. 27, which ordered the separation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs into two independent ministries, the First Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Ministry of Social Affairs is responsible for all activities related to labor and labor affairs, Social development.
In 1436 AH, Royal Decree No. (A / 133) was issued by merging the Ministries of Labor and Social Affairs into one ministry under the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.
