The Ministry of Labor and Social Development plans to implement the third phase of the decision relating to feminization and nationalization of shops selling women necessities starting from October 21 (Safar 1, 1439 A.H).

MLSD spokesman Khaled Abalkhail said it will include shops selling perfumes, shoes, bags, women socks, ready-to-wear cloths, kiosks and women fabrics, in addition to department stores selling women cloths along with other staples.

It also targets independent small stores that sell soiree gowns, wedding dresses, Abaya (cloaks), accessories, Jalabiyas (traditional dresses) and mother-care products, as well as including pharmacies with sections that sell accessories and cosmetics located in indoor malls.

Meanwhile, the third phase comes as part of the two phases that were previously implemented and also targeted shops selling women-only stuff at indoor shopping centers, outdoor markets and independent stores.

Additionally, the ministry has laid out conditions that streamline work environment for women and maintain their safety and privacy, such as providing rest and prayer places, as well as security guards.

The Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) will support female workers through an array of incentives and training programs, including feminization of women-only shops, nationalization of shopping centers, payroll rebate and other programs.

Also, HRDF offers additional two programs including childcare program "Qorrah" allowing female workers to put their children in a safe place along with the transportation program ‘Wusool’. These programs are in a bid to empower Saudi women and raise their participation in the labor market and retain their jobs.
