The Ministry of Labor and Social Development will implement next Saturday the nationalization and feminization of shops selling women-only necessities including perfumes, shoes, bags, women socks, ready-to-wear cloths, kiosks and women fabrics, in addition to department stores selling women cloths along with other staples.

MLSD spokesman Khaled Abalkhail said It also targets independent stores that sell soiree gowns, wedding dresses, Abaya (cloaks), accessories, Jalabiyas (traditional dresses) and mother-care products, as well as involving pharmacies with sections that sell accessories and cosmetics located in indoor malls.

Abalkhail added the ministry lays out conditions that streamline a work environment for women working at indoor shops, outdoor markets, independent stores and department stores, such as providing a private place or special section for women that avoid mixing between men and women.

According to the conditions, the employed should hire a security guard or install a security system if the shop receives customers, along with providing a resting and prayer place and lavatories, Abalkhail added.

The spokesman said if the department stores sell women and non-women stuff, the female department should have not less than three female workers in one shift and separated from other sections with partitions.

It is permitted to employ women and men in the same department, as well as not allowing men to stay in the women-only department or any other way, Abalkhail added as well.

Meanwhile, the Human Resources Development Fund offers an array of services that support working women in terms of wages and training along with providing the children hospitality and transportation programs, which raises the number of Saudi women in the labor market and combats unemployment among them.
