MLSD organizes national forum for OSH

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) will organize the National Forum for Occupational Safety and Health held at the King Faisal Conference Hall, Riyadh, on April 28, which synchronizes with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The two-day event targets OSH experts, employers and workers in both the public and private sectors alongside the nonprofit sector. MLSD said it seeks to spread preventive awareness and enhance occupational safety and health as the forum is one of the outcomes yielded by the National Strategic Program for OSH and one of the ministry’s initiatives under the National Transformation Program 2020 in order to realize the Saudi Vision 2030. The forum aims to raise awareness of the importance of OSH, increase attractiveness of workplace, spread precautionary culture, enhance importance of applying OSH regulations and principles, develop national legislation in the field of OSH, as well as motivating employers and workers to adopt an attractive, safe and healthy work environment. During the forum, a number of topics will be discussed including the role of OSH management at workplace, transfer experiences and best practices for OSH and utilize local and international expertise in a bid to raise the level of safety and health standards. At the event, it is planned to announce the 2018 edition of the ‘OSH Champions Award’ as speakers from the private and public sectors, OSH experts and the International Labor Organization (ILO) will share their work paper as well as present successful experiences in the field of OSH. Also, the sessions and submitted papers will discuss the ministry’s strategy for OSH, occupational credentials for professionals along with displaying a presentation on one of the successful local experiences in the industry. Additionally, the forum will address the papers on government legislative systems and their impact on the reduction of work accidents in industrial firms and OSH in medical facilities and the role of the best international practices in develop safety regulations at work. The forum allows stakeholders in the private and public sectors and other entities to utilize local and international experiences, which supports application of regulations and practices based on latest developments in the OSH field. Meanwhile, the forum is conducted at a national level, and is an importance move that contributes to raise preventive awareness. The National Forum for Occupational Safety and Health is an attempt to shed light on the importance of safety and health’s workers and protection of property and environment to find an effective and a safe workplace with keeping up with international standards for OSH, which reflects the Kingdom’s efforts in this regard.
