Special workshop tackles issues faced by social protection units

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) recently conducted a workshop titled ‘Social Protection: Challenge and Ambition’ held at the Social Club, Ad Diriyah Social Compound in Riyadh. Under the auspices of General Supervisor for Social Care and Family Eng. Al-Hejab Al-Hazmi, the workshop aims to define most pressing challenges encountered by social protection units, pin down proposed initiatives to overcome these challenges, unify work procedures and exchange knowledge among social workers of various unites in order to come up with recommendations and ensure quality of work. Dr. Maram al-Harbi, social protection director, said the workshop comes within the General Administration for Social Protection’s efforts in achieving the objectives of the National Transformation Program and Saudi Vision 2030 that tackle family abuse issues. The workshop was attended by Khaled Abalkhail, general supervisor for public relation and media and spokesman for MLSD, who spoke of the role of media in protection against family violence. Meanwhile, Dr. Norah alhswai, faculty member and director at PNU Research Center, conducted training on ‘the role of mediation in transfer of conflict’ in a bid to equip social workers, managers and supervisors who came from various parts of the Kingdom with certain skills in solving conflicts between disputing parties. The workshop proposed a number of important recommendations that propose an action plan to overcome obstacles faced by the social protection units, raise service quality and improve the performance of units and teams through providing training programs and enhance cooperation among government entities to offer proper assistance and care to abuse victims.
