In light of continued support to the war-torn Syrian brothers, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) has allowed them to obtain or renew temporary work permits via the Ajeer (e-Hiring) portal. Khaled Abalkhail, spokesman for the MLSD, said ‘The permit is a legal document that governs the contractual relationship between the visitor and the establishment, which is issued by the employer’. Abalkhail clarified that the Syrian brothers can submit their application via ‘Ajeer for visitors’ and the service is only restricted on the establishments, adding the establishment should be found in the ministry’s database. The spokesman added the establishment’s MLSD account should be active and fall into the medium green range and above, providing that the establishment will not fall into lower ranges in the Nitqata program because of hiring the visitor. Abalkhail said when the temporary work permit is issued for the Syrian brother in order to work in the establishment, its nationalization rate will be changed in the Nitaqat program during the effective period, elaborated Abalkhail. Additionally, the establishment should register the Syrian visitor with the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) in the category of occupational dangers, said Abalkhail. Abalkhail added the Syrian visitor must be male and aged 18-60 in order to get the temporary work permit and hold a valid visitor card issued by the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat). Abalkhail urged the Syrians brothers to utilize the service and follow the instructions through visiting the portal. He said they can contact the Ajeer’s customer service No. (920002866) or the MLSD customer service No. (19911) if they have any inquiry on the e-portal. It is noteworthy that the hiring portal is in a bid to help the establishments to meet their demand of the expatriate workers in diverse sectors by large, regulate and document the influx of foreign labor into Saudi Arabia.
